Overview

Sterex® Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal recognised as permanent. Unlike laser hair removal, it works on all hair and skin types — including light, grey and hormonal hair. At CARA, electrolysis is delivered by Jessica, our Senior Skin Therapist, and is particularly valued for facial and hormonal hair.

How It Works

A fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, and a small electrical current destroys the follicle's ability to produce new hair. Each follicle is treated individually, which is why a course of treatments is required — hairs grow in cycles, and all follicles in an area are not active at the same time.

Is This Treatment Right for You?

Electrolysis is suitable for anyone looking to permanently remove unwanted hair — particularly where laser is not effective (light, grey or hormonal hair). It is especially valued by patients with hormonal hair growth on the face.

Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on the area and hair type. A course is always required. Your practitioner will estimate at consultation.

Laser targets pigment and works best on dark hair on lighter skin. Electrolysis works on any hair and skin type, including grey, blonde and hormonal hair — and it is the only method recognised as truly permanent.

Most patients describe a mild stinging sensation. Tolerance varies, and treatment is paced to your comfort.

Typically every 1-2 weeks at first, tapering as results progress. Hair cycles determine the schedule.

Aftercare

  1. 1Avoid touching the treated area
  2. 2Avoid makeup on the area for 24 hours
  3. 3Avoid heat, exercise, saunas and swimming for 24-48 hours
  4. 4Apply SPF on exposed areas
  5. 5Expect mild redness for a few hours — this is normal
